Abstract: In the eyes of his contemporaries, Molière used a singular strategy to defend his theatrical production. In the midst of theatrical quarrels, when paratexts were still texts of circumstance, he used them to provoke his detractors and stir up controversy. More than the reflection of an ideological stance, this strategy stems from a commercial logic, designed above all to distinguish himself from his contemporaries and promote his theater.
