Abstract: Preacher, panegyrist, tutor, historian: Bossuet was all of these things and more. A man of many talents, versatile like all the other heirs of the classical school and of humanism in his era, he was a bishop, an attentive scholar, and an exegete. In this Supplément, he takes part in the exegetical debates of the thinkers of his age. He sets out his position against a Dutch scholar then in vogue, Hugo Grotius, an Arminian exegete and, according to Bossuet here, a Socinian.
