Ceva, the birthplace of Bertrand

• Abstract: The Italian campaign of 1796 explains that Bertrand was born in Ceva: after the victory of Bonaparte's army, Georges Bertrand was a lieutenant of the gendarmerie there, met the mayor's daughter there and married her. Jacques Louis Napoleon was born the following year. We present documents from this brief period of French administration, after a few historical reminders.
