Abstract: Studies on Bertrand refer only to certain passages from David d’Angers’s Carnets: those that concern Bertrand, supplement his letter to Sainte-Beuve, revive the knowledge of their links, and specify the generous and enigmatic events that surrounded his death and his burial, of which the sculptor was the only witness. Other unpublished sources explain how he gave the poet a burial worthy of his respect for the man and his work.
