Abstract: The dynamics of the unitive embrace of Teresa of Avila has suffering as a driving force. This paper proposes an analytical approach of the suffering: his anthropological central position, its necessity and its relationship to desire, the complexity and richness of the lexicon, levels and grades of suffering, the suffering paradox.
