Abstract: Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall (2009) and Bring Up the Bodies (2012) paint Thomas Cromwell as a contemporary (anti-)hero, by reactivating the Tudors’ infamous image and appropriating the tropes of the biopic genre. A self-made man before its time, this counselor of Henry VIII lends himself perfectly to a « tudorian » re-invention.
