Abstract: The character of Richard the Fearless enters the fictional verse literature at the end of the 15th century. Its mise en prose by Gilles Corrozet, revised and completed around 1590 by an anonymous author, introduces material, structural, linguistic and topic changes that pursue a double purpose: the preservation of the medieval heritage, and the approval of the Renaissance public, invited to a pleasant memorial game in which metaphysical and even political concerns give way to chivalrous and gallant entertainments.
