Abstract: It may seem rather unusual to devote a whole study to the adverb maintenant and to the analysis of deixis in the Recherche. However, as the narration of the perception of time requires the use of displaced deictics, their position and recurrence in the text are of fundamental importance for the appreciation of the distinctiveness and uniqueness of Proust’s voice.
