Abstract: The dedication to Giovanni Cavalcanti inscribed only on the autographic Vaticanus is a passionate declaration to the amicus unicus. How then can its absence from the Epistolae be accounted for ? The study of the Correspondence proves that the defender of the uera Platonici philosophi amicitia was obliged to foil the scurrilous insinuations of slander.
