Abstract: Nicolas Trevet dedicated most of his works to personalities of the papal Curia of Avignon and the court of England. The dedication of his Annals shows that his thorough knowledge of Livy, of whom he was the first commentator, sometimes allowed him to free himself from the formal conventions which characterise universal chronicles.
