Abstract: Fall and flight are part of the basic vocabulary and elementary grammar of stage language. Cultural and scientific evolutions dramatise and theatricalise these flights, orientating them in terms of their technical realisation and symbolic significance. Air travel can become a metaphor for the displacement of the imagination produced when the stage curtain opens: the discovery of an elsewhere, and the invitation to appreciate the world from another viewpoint, be it from on-high or panoramic.
