Abstract: Paul Léautaud is a paradoxical writer. Though he proves to be a keen observer of the literary field of his time, he seems willing to remain aloof but is eventually overwhelmed by his thirst for glory. His failures lead him to find shelter in his Journal littéraire which will bring him recognition.
