Abstract: This article studies the five editions of Marot’s translation of the epyllion by Musée on the unhappy love affair between Héro and Léandre, published in 1541. The comparison between editorial choices allows us to understand the issues at stake in the publication of a translation of a Greek poem around 1540. While non-authorised editions seem to want to connect the text with the sentimental fictions fashionable at the time, notably by accentuating the moral aspect, the poet shows his desire to let the text speak on its own.
