Abstract: This work examines the affinity between paradox and the prose of classical moralists. It studies the appropriation of a linguistic fact and its stylistic revalorization in Montaigne, Pascal, La Rochefoucauld, and La Bruyère. It offers a contribution to the study of classical literature and linguistics.
