Abstract: Overshadowed by the Enlightenment-era Encyclopédie, the Encyclopédie méthodique, composed of specialized dictionaries, has long been underestimated as an overarching work. This book analyzes the Dictionnaires using the notion of transversality, a notion that has shed light on the meaning of an unsystematic order.
