Abstract: Using a sumptuous manuscript painted in Flanders in the early eleventh century (Paris, Arsenal, ms. 592) as its point of departure, this book examines the creative process that was occurring in the eleventh century along with the theology of the image. A true object-sign, it plays a role in a certain political structure at the beginning of the eleventh century in Flanders.
