Abstract: Reported speech found in medieval accounting records of officers and their transcriptions of fines gives access to an original facet of language to linguists: this is demonstrated in this article through, among other things, the study of certain items (oiseau, porter la plume, genaiche, vaite, sanglant bout crevé).
