Abstract: The significantly greater presence of letters in the trilogy than in other plays by Beaumarchais demands attention. Whether it is a text, discourse, act, or accessory, the letter is a protean dramatic object which lends itself to metamorphoses and varied significations. This article seeks to demonstrate that this slight piece of paper constitutes a unifying link between the three plays, but also participates in their increasing gravity.
