Abstract: This study of the linguistic and didactic aspects of Spanish appreciative suffixation, a very frequent and highly productive device for lexical formation in Spanish, presents its morphological, pragmatic and sociocultural functioning, underlining its semantic value. These prove particularly relevant to teaching Spanish as a second language. Some pedagogical approaches are finally presented aimed at inculcating the appropriate language skills.
