Abstract: This study aims at providing a precise
theoretical framework for the analysis of how blends are formed, illustrated by a
study of neological blends taken from the Spanish press. This analysis includes a
typology of the formation stressing the criterion of overlapping, a precise terminology
proposed, and an analysis of the various criteria which go into making up blends, in
particular criteria related to homophony.
