Abstract: Although La Boétie refers more readily to classical historians than philosophers, Marco Sgattoni reads the Discours in the light of Hellenistic philosophy. Because the development of these philosophies attests to a veritable Antique “crisis of culture”, they constitute a precious intellectual reference point in the attempt to reconstruct a true natural science of morality in opposition to the disenchanted process of denaturation.
