Abstract: This volume sheds light on the unspoken aim of Montaigne’s voyage (to seek a solution to the religious conflicts that afflicted Europe), his journey based on his readings (Theatrum vitae humanae by Theodor Zwinger), and the use he makes of them, including the subjective writing he deploys in the Essais.
