Abstract: Here, we consider the clothing of the dandy-author Barbey alongside a religious aesthetic, which is familiar to him, by analyzing his personal construction and the Catholic parament of the nineteenth century. We observe many similarities between ecclesiastical colors and clothing and the writer’s wardrobe, which also apply to writing rituals and social practices.
