Abstract: Barbey d’Aurevilly has long been stigmatized for his eccentric fashion sense, despite the pertinence of his reflections on the notions of elegance and dandyism. Contemporary criticism, meanwhile, has moved its focus on to the social and philosophical dimensions of these concepts, which this volume explores from a theoretical, stylistic, and sociopolitical perspective.
