Abstract:Du Dandysme et de George Brummell is generally considered to be the first real reflection on dandyism in France. However, Barbey was continuing and building on an already-established tradition of reflection on elegance. With his Brummell, he carves out an important path for understanding dandyism and tries to define a dandyism adapted to French norms.
