Abstract: The historical work of Maxime du Camp has certain peculiarities which place it on the margins of the history writing of his time, from which he nevertheless takes up a certain number of codes. Anxious to collect documents and testimonies on the events he lives, he becomes a true historian of the present time. His goal is to leave to posterity the traces of history being made, established with an assertive objectivity but not always easy to take on.
