Abstract: The study of là, the adverb of place, will provide the opportunity to rediscover the major themes found in Duras’ work. Several illustrations of this usage shows that the adverb is inextricably linked to the ontological problematic, and the syntagm être là can claim to characterize Duras’ style just as it defines the mot-trou. One of these occurrences will then be analyzed with a predominantly Lacanian approach (via the mirror stage).
