Abstract: Louis XI’s reign is marked by urban revolts. By punishing them, the king carries out a repressive policy on a large scale which allows him to reinforce his authority in his kingdom. Rebels are criminalized by a royal discourse which focuses on the obedience owed to the sovereign.
