Abstract: The notion of the faction runs throughout the spiritual work of Surin, notably in his two major narratives, the Triomphe de l’Amour divin sur les puissances de l’Enfer and the Science expérimentale des choses de l’autre vie. This essentially political notion is transformed by its contact with mysticism: imported into the domain of demonology, it becomes a matter for theology, translates a divided perception of the writing subject, and provides a way of thinking about heterodoxy at the very heart of the mystic sphere.
