Abstract: Hamadi Labidi’s Le Roman du vieux frère explores the wave of recriminations expressed by an outraged Tunisian subject, who condemns the persistent misgovernance and the recurrent violent restrictions that weigh on citizens in a “zombified” city where individual freedoms are a mirage… The novel imagines citizen commitment producing a new man and an alternative city in which community life is the norm.
