Abstract: This article discusses the configurations of a standardized representation of male and female bodies by the Arabic television industry. By analyzing pan-Arabian reality television shows, it shows how seemingly liberated images of Arab men and women, presented as the typical products of a “glocalized” modernity, are merely artifacts of a well-established industry reintroducing, via Westernized televisual devices, traditional Eastern norms.
