Abstract: Since the 1970s, the engagement of Arabian writers has come in many guises, with anti-heroes replacing positive heroes. Humor and ridicule have also operated as a new form of engagement, with laughter seeking to subtly criticize society in the name of improving the human condition. This issue was to be addressed through Waqā’‘ mā ğarā li-l-mar’a dhāt al-qubqāb al-ḏahabī (2012) by the Tunisian author Ibrahīm Darġūṯī, and Safīnat Nūḥ (2009) by the Egyptian author Khaled Al-Khamissi.
