Abstract: This contribution examines the issue of scent identification. It begins by demonstrating the nonexistence of odoronyms, “odor names” being either general or superordinate names, or names used to specify a type of scent. It then analyzes binominal constructions with scent as a head noun, describes the characteristics of scent categorization construction, and highlights the origin of its olfactory categorization power.
