Abstract: This study analyses translation strategies and the limits of adaptation in the context of theatrical translation. It is based on two typescripts: a Kurdish theatrical text and its French translation written for the stage. The aim is to show that the adaptation is positioned between three variables: the cultural values of the original, the needs of the new receiver, and the translator’s intentions. Is the French version in fact a creation with the same subject-matter but different objectives?
