Abstract: This article provides an overview of the modalities and results of the collaboration between Pierre Bayle and the editor in Rotterdam, Reinier Leers during the 1680s. The analysis of their correspondence allows showing how, during those years, Bayle worked for Leers as an intermediary as well as an editor and reviewer. The editorial history of the pieces that make up the controversy between Malebranche and Arnauld gives an idea of the mechanisms deployed by Bayle and Leers in order to kindle the controversy and stimulate public interest.
