. La pensée de Pierre Bayle
  • Author: Muceni (Elena)
  • Abstract: This article discusses the hypothesis that Bernard Mandeville participated in the first English translation (London, 1710) of Pierre Bayle’s Dictionnaire. This article first attempts to look at Bayle’s influence on Mandeville’s production, raises a chronological argument to reject the hypothesis that Mandeville participated in the translation of the Dictionnaire, and analyzes this publication in the context of the English book market of the early eighteenth century.
