• Abstract: Out of respect for the neutrality of the function of the president, Bouisson only sketched out a programme of modernisation for the Chamber. During the crisis of the 1930s, trapped between the reform of the authoritarian state and the movement of popular gatherings, the president of the Chamber, a symbol of the Republic of the Parliament, was powerless to defend Parliament against the legal crisis and the growth in power of a new type of executive.
