• Abstract: The Baroque sensibility of sixteenth-century Cretan theatre has not been greatly studied. This article approaches the specificities of the Greek Baroque through Erophile by Georges Chortatsis and Roi Rodolino by Andréas Troïlos. The originality of the Cretan variation of the Italian Baroque can be seen in the Greek treatment of material provided by Italian sixteenth-century tragic theatre, in particular the Orbecche by Giovanbattista Giraldi and the Roi Torrismondo of Tasso.
