Abstract: First published in 1777, Les Incas, ou la destruction de l’Empire du Pérou carried on, in the form of a half-historical, half-philosophical novel, the defense of tolerance the author had begun with Bélisaire (1767). In the novel, he denounces slavery, the thirst for gold, and religious fanaticism.
