Abstract: Analysing the correspondence of the Swedish consul in Marseille, François Philip Fölsch, sheds light on the type of news the consul thought would interest his recipients as well as the nature of the analysis deployed for the benefit of the royal chancellery of Stockholm. Systematically foregrounded by the interested party, his competencies as an informer turn information into a tool for the promotion of his personal interests and those of his lineage.
