Abstract: This paper shows how bilingual French/Italian and Italian/French dictionaries resemble dictionaries of literature. Indeed, in the Italian/French section, literary quotations vastly dominate. The lexical references and phraseology cited in the entries of many bilingual dictionaries are therefore based on literary authors that extend from the Middle Ages to present day. This is reflected in an increase of literary quotations in the French/Italian section.
