Abstract: Despite the Mediterranean’s traditional ethnic, religious, and linguistic diversity, food resources and gastronomy occupy an important place among the cultural traits shared by different neighboring nations. The classification of sea creatures preserves interesting pieces of this cultural wealth, also demonstrating that terminology is not always free from polysemy or metaphorical mechanisms.
