Abstract: Using his dictionary, L’Argot des poilus. Dictionnaire humoristique et philologique du langage des soldats, François Déchelette tells us about the vocabulary used by servicepeople. This article gives an overview of the language used during World War I that is still used today, even if the meanings have changed. He examines several terms used by soldiers originally from Arabic that have become integrated into the modern language. Of course, they have different forms now.
