Abstract: This is a reading of the representation of the Mediterranean in the poetic writing of Tahar Bekri. The corpus is a part of a Tunisian literature about exile between two shores, two languages, and two cultures. This article emphasizes the linguistic dimension (the presence of Arabic, linguistic hybridization, cultural sources, and the interplay of influences) based on three themes: the Mediterranean as a memory of places; as a space for roaming, writing, and freedom; and as a nomadic imaginary and quest for alterity.
