Abstract: Following the January 7 2015 attack at Charlie Hebdo, questions of creative freedom and the responsibility of the writer were posed with great urgency in France. Responding to the reception of recent works by Richard Millet and Michel Houellebecq, this chapter studies the influence of nationalism on French journalistic discourse at times when political events and provocative artworks collide.
