Abstract: Élisabeth Moutzan-Martinengou (1801-1832), daughter of François Moutzan and Angelique Sigourou, was born into a family of noble lineage. Her Autobiography, first Greek-language first-person text by a woman, marked by a moving sensitivity and of an exceptional literary quality, allows us to discover her spirit and states of mind along with the spasmodic, often interrupted, character of her education and the stages of her spiritual evolution. It contains a daring message of female emancipation.
