Abstract:Le Roman russe was published in 1886, when the French public had just discovered both Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. Vogüé speaks enthusiastically of these exemplary novelists in contradistinction to French naturalists. This text is a valuable testament to the aesthetics of the novel in the symbolist era.
