Abstract: This article examines the metadiscourse of translators from the Renaissance onwards, with the goal of measuring the strength of clothing metaphors used throughout the ages, and to determine the social, poetical and intercultural issues surrounding these metaphors. Indeed, if clothing metaphors were initially a simple lexical substitute to denote translation/transcription, they have over time become enriched by ethical and aesthetic nuances.
