Abstract: This paper studies the poetical and semantic specificity of the link between white and red in the works of four Spanish poets of the Golden Age. The analysis of the metaphoric processes focuses on the variations on the carpe diem topos from Garcilaso to the seventeenth-century poets (Góngora and Quevedo) without omitting Medrano’s countermodel.
