Abstract: This study is interested, in a historical perspective, in random metaphors as opposed to deterministic metaphors. It deals in particular with the cosmological metaphor of the game of dice and on some avatars. It begins with a classification of random metaphors; it continues with the examination of the emergence and contestation of a chaosophic literature. It ends with the hypothesis of an encounter between the theory of metaphor and the possible worlds in the literary theory.
